Scenic Walton is a nonprofit that works with the community to preserve the natural beauty and enhance the quality of life in Walton County, Florida. We believe that beauty is good for business.
MAJOR VICTORY: FPL Transmission Line NOT MOVING FORWARD!
Florida Power & Light (FPL) recently informed Scenic Walton that due to other system improvements and alternative solutions that now meet near-term energy needs, the proposed Argyle–Santa Rosa transmission line is not moving forward at this time. This was a direct result of Scenic Walton partnering with the Walton County Board of County Commissioners to encourage FPL to consider placing the transmission line beneath the Choctawhatchee Bay rather than spanning it overhead. This approach was seen as an important opportunity to preserve the scenic character of the bay while also enhancing long‑term system reliability. In response, FPL began evaluating alternatives, and the project timeline was extended to allow for more detailed engineering and planning. We appreciate this thoughtful approach as it gave all parties more time to collaborate on the best possible result for the community.
