Planned Giving with Scenic America

Scenic America is proud to offer a way for supporters to memorialize their legacy in scenic conservation into the future: the Scenic America Planned Giving Society.

As the only nonprofit dedicated entirely to preserving our nation’s scenic beauty and defending the visual character of our communities, we recognize the profound impact that our supporters have had on our organization over the last 40 years. Many of these supporters are no longer with us, but some continue to support our work by way of a planned gift to Scenic America.

Sample Language

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to make your planned giving arrangements, so we have crafted language for you to use in your own estate planning documents.

For an unrestricted gift that allows Scenic America to determine how to use the funds based on its most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

“I give to Scenic America (Tax ID #23-2188166), located in Washington, DC, or its successor thereto, _________ [specific dollar amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] to be used for its general support without restriction.”

To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

“I give to Scenic America (Tax ID #23-2188166), located in Washington, DC, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for [state purpose]. If, at any time, Scenic America’s board of directors determines that the need does not exist or that it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then the board may, in its sole discretion, direct the use of my bequest for any purpose that, in the board’s opinion, most nearly accomplishes my wishes and purposes in making the bequest.”

If you have already named Scenic America in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. If you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.

Establishing an enduring gift to Scenic America will help guide our organization into the future, and is an effective way to ensure your legacy and impact on scenic conservation.

Planned Giving Testimonials

Martha Fuller Clark

“I am committed to continuing my mother’s legacy through my involvement with Scenic America, the organization she helped form. This dedication has been a lifelong endeavor, which is why I’ve taken steps to ensure this commitment endures beyond my time. Scenic America holds a unique position, as there’s no other organization that combines preserving community character with safeguarding our landscapes. Just as the mission statement ‘Taking the Long View’ emerged from our board’s shared passion for scenic conservation, I encourage everyone to consider their own passions when making their own planned giving arrangements. This is what will secure the organization’s lasting vitality, sustaining the hard work and dedication put into it over a lifetime.” – Martha Fuller Clark, Scenic America Board of Directors, Former State Senator (Democrat, New Hampshire)

“I’ve made the decision to structure my assets within an annuity to ensure that a certain percentage automatically goes to those mentioned in my will, bypassing the executor. A portion of this has been earmarked for Scenic America. My sense of patriotism, idealism, and love for visual aesthetics drive my commitment to enhancing the world around me and making it better for everyone. The inspiration I derive from beauty fuels my passion for supporting Scenic America’s mission. This organization’s unique focus on preserving the visual environment resonates deeply with me, as it contributes to a sense of patriotism and inspiration. Scenic America’s vital role in raising awareness about the significance of our surroundings gives me hope and joy. It’s heartening to witness a nationwide effort that connects various initiatives, offering a sense of support and camaraderie. Notably, Scenic America is singular in its dedication to the visual landscape of our nation, and its impact is profound. Often, people overlook the importance of these visual aspects, but they shape our daily lives more than we realize. Our country’s aesthetic environment should not be confined to controlled spaces, but be the norm and the expectation. The difference it makes is often underestimated and undervalued. Scenic America has the power to highlight and safeguard this difference.” – Ardis Wood, Chair, Scenic Chatham
