Scenic Pittsburgh Scenic Byways Designation and Support

Scenic Pittsburgh Scenic Byways Designation and Support. We propose new scenic byways in our 10-county area and work to have them designated officially, allowing communities to access a wide range of new funding opportunities that support scenic and historic assets

The PA Byway program helps bring tourism to smaller towns and roadways.

The PA Byway program has several goals, including:

  • Preserve the visual, cultural and historic aspects of the byway
  • Promote tourism
  • Enhance economic development potential throughout the Commonwealth

The process to get a byway designated can be challenging, but once it is, the communities along it are eligible for specific set-aside funding that can be used on a variety of projects, including marketing, interpretive signage, byways facilities, access to recreation, and planning.

Scenic Pittsburgh is working to designate an 80-mile historic byway that will pass through Fayette and Westmoreland counties, and we are planning to expand this effort to Greene and Washington counties as well. If you have questions or suggestions, please contact us.
