A dangerous proposal in the California Legislature threatens to gut key protections for our communities, our environment, and our scenic beauty. SB 364 would redefine “customary maintenance” of billboards to include major structural rebuilds — allowing massive changes without environmental review, safety checks, or local approval.

If passed, this bill would:

• Bypass CEQA environmental protections;

• Open the door to unsafe, unpermitted billboard construction; and

• Strip local governments of control over billboard regulation.
