"Trees for Test Drives" Returns This October - BMW and Scenic America Partner to Reforest America
October 12, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Scenic America is thrilled to announce the return of its successful reforestation partnership with BMW of North America. The “Trees for Test Drives” initiative invites drivers across America to support reforestation efforts in fire-damaged areas in the United States. From October 16 to October 31, every electric vehicle (EV) test drive taken at a participating BMW Center in the U.S. will result in 25 new trees planted by Scenic America on behalf of BMW.

This month’s campaign is the second tree-planting initiative conducted by Scenic America and BMW. The partnership carried out its first-ever “Trees for Test Drives” campaign in April as a celebration around Earth Day. The program resulted in 10,000 new trees being planted in fire-damaged areas and more than doubled BMW EV test drives.

Scenic America President Mark Falzone expressed his optimism and enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential to advance their core mission. “We were thrilled with the results of our ‘Trees for Test Drives’ campaign earlier this year, and even happier that BMW approached us for a second program,” said Falzone. “This is a great opportunity for Scenic America to help our country reach our lofty reforestation goals while encouraging the utilization of alternative forms of energy. We greatly value this partnership with BMW and look forward to more successful programs in the future.”

Visitors to participating BMW Centers will have the opportunity to test drive the brand’s growing lineup of fully electric models including the sporty BMW i4 Gran Coupe, versatile BMW iX Sports Activity Vehicle, and range-topping BMW i7 flagship sedan. The first-ever 100% electric BMW i5 sedan will arrive at dealerships later this year. Scenic America carries out reforestation programs like this one through partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), a federal agency within the United States Department of the Interior. BLM has set a significant reforestation goal of over 136k acres by 2030, aimed at restoring and enhancing the country’s natural landscapes and addressing recent wildfires. This goal reflects the agency’s commitment to responsible land management, ecological conservation, and the sustainable use of public lands. Reforestation is a crucial component of the BLM’s broader mission to manage and protect the diverse ecosystems, resources, and cultural heritage found on public lands, which encompass over 245 million acres of public lands and 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate.

In addition to the ecological benefits of reforestation, these initiatives contribute to the economic vitality of local communities by supporting jobs in tree planting, forest management, and related industries. This comprehensive approach includes not only the planting of trees but also the nurturing of healthy, well-functioning forest ecosystems that offer multiple ecological benefits, from clean air and water to recreational opportunities. Scenic America supports these efforts, and recognizes that reforestation is a vital component of its broader conservation mission.
